I met David and his wife when I went to pick up a female puppy for my nephew. Two of the kindest people you want to meet. Very obvious they both have a lot of love and passion for their Retrievers. David was very informative and gave me a lot of background about Little Ann and how David had choose the blood line. So I just wanted to thank David and his wife for their warm welcome while I was at their home. I would definitely recommend you talking to these folks at Southern Field Retrievers.

What a pleasure it was dealing with the Brown’s at Southern Field Retrievers. Their dedication to the lineage, instincts and confirmation of these dogs is very impressive. They are quick to answer all questions and take the time to match appropriate pups to the buyers needs. We can’t recommend Southern Field Retrievers enough!

Black Jack Mulligan is extremely athletic. He loves the water and will retrieve endlessly and is very strong, fast swimmer. Jack is very intelligent and this is a quick learner, very loyal and obedient. As the alpha in the litter ,he is aggressive but not to people and other dogs. We live on top of a mountain and he knows when someone turns on our drive half a mile away. We are working in the field and water. Jack has learned hand signals quickly! We love him and are very proud of him.

I've had American Labradors since I was in college. When my last Lab died in Nov. 2019, I knew I'd soon be on a journey to find his successor. About a month after he died, I began looking for breeders of American Labs---they're pretty rare in the Northeast. Among the first I contacted was Dave of Southern Field Labradors. Dave didn't have any litters forthcoming at that time, but he talked to me about his dogs, asked me about mine, and suggested that we stay in touch, and even if he didn't have a pup for me, he'd be happy to answer questions. It was clear he just loved these dogs and was enthusiastic talking about them even if there was no sale in sight. I felt uncomfortable taking his time, but we ended up texting or talking occasionally and he'd send pictures of his beautiful dogs---I kept hoping Dave would have a litter soon, but when that wasn't happening, I continued my search. With absolutely nothing to gain from me, Dave would offer information about Labs and what to look for when speaking to other breeders, and made himself available if I had a question. Finally, I found a breeder and situation I liked in Maryland whose female would be giving birth in mid-September. I called Dave on Sept. 1st just to see if any pups were "brewing" yet (I was still hoping) before I made my final decision about the Maryland litter. But no pups in sight. So I went ahead and chose a black male from the Maryland litter. Then, about 2 weeks later, Dave called to tell me that finally there was a breeding of one of his females. I was torn. Dave understood my dilemma, and was patient with my getting back to him about my decision. I felt I had to go ahead with the litter I'd already chosen--it was almost a full year before since my other dog had died, and this was the longest I'd been without a dog for 30 years.
So, I can't say enough about Dave's knowledge, dedication and love for these American Labs, or for his warmth and generosity as a person. We continue to be in touch, and I value our connection.. .
